JERRY “J.B.” JURGENS
Jerry “J.B.” Jurgens, 86, a prominent Cheyenne County farmer for 63 years and lifelong resident, passed away peacefully in his home on December 24, 2014.
Graveside services will be at 3:00 P.M., Thursday, January 8th in the Greenwood Cemetery. Cremation has been held. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Thursday prior to services to sign Jerry’s register book and drop off condolences for the family. Memorial contributions may be made in Jerry’s name to an animal rescue cause or the SRMC Home Health.
Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Jerry’s care and funeral arrangements.
Jerry, son of Ben C. and Annette (Barkema) Jurgens, was born December 16, 1928 in Gurley, NE. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. At the age of 16, he graduated from Sidney High School. Jerry enjoyed collecting and restoring cars and farm trucks. He worked at the Mayfair Service Station with Tom Kallhoff and Pittam Body Shop after high school. Jerry joined the U.S. Air Force and was Honorably Discharged in 1951.
He began farming in Cheyenne and Kimball County. He married Shirley Bules on September 19, 1953; they continued to farm and raise two children. Jerry loved his family with all of his heart. He was a tremendous man, a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved dogs and wanted each one to have a home. Jerry was a hard-working man, tending to the wheat fields each year. He enjoyed attending many auctions throughout the years.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Shirley Jurgens of Sidney, son Bradd Jurgens and girlfriend Bernice Wiebers of Sterling, CO, daughter Jennifer Jurgens and granddaughter Katy Jurgens of Cheyenne, WY, sister-in-law, Delores Jurgens of Branson, MO, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Herman, sisters Emily and Annette.
