Condolences

Condolence From: Randy and Nyla Hobson
Condolence: What a wonderful woman she was. She was always very supportive of the new "young" teachers. She always made Randy laughed. He respected her so much. Dalton was lucky to have had her on the faculty. We all learned a lot from her inside and outside of school. Our thoughts are with you.

Condolence From: Jim Troidl Jr.
Condolence: To her students, she was "Mrs. Mintken". She took no guff, ran a tight ship and you know what, I, for one, learned more from her than the other classes put together. I told her this in person at a picnic in Sidney once years later. So, Thank You, Mrs. Mintken. Jim Troidl Jr. Class of '72.

Condolence From: Kim Dykman Bush
Condolence: "My Wayne" (Dykman) and Wayne (Mintken) being close lifelong friends made Peek an 'instant' friend and mentor to me when I - a very young 'town kid' - became a very young ranch wife. Peek was the kind of person who made you feel you'd known her forever from the moment you met. I remember sitting in Peek & Clayton's kitchen many times, just visiting about anything and everything - enjoying whatever she happened to always be cooking/baking/canning - usually accompanied by at least one glass of her famous homemade wine. Peek shared with me her recipe for Chokecherry Wine. I started a batch of my own one day in a big old Redwing crock, but several days into the process I threw it out because it started to mold on top. When I saw Peek next & told her this, I remember that first her eyes started to sparkle - then the corners of her mouth started to twitch - but being the kind & gentle soul that she was, she didn't laugh outright just yet. First, she very patiently explained to me that my batch of homemade wine was supposed to mold on top as part of the natural fermentation process. Only after I laughed out loud at myself, did Peek - and Clayton - laugh with me! We laughed about that for many years to come. Peek was also a master of the old-fashioned art of tatting. She gifted Wayne & I with a beautiful, white tatted angel for the top of our Christmas tree our very first Christmas. Topping our family tree with that cherished tatted angel has been a family tradition every Christmas since. Peek also knit the beautiful pale pink infant dress that all three of our daughters and our Granddaughter were Baptized in. And in each of our four children's Keepsake Boxes, there is a well loved baby afghan, knit and gifted by Peek. These are just a few of my most cherished memories of a true lady who was very, very special to me. Rest in Peace, Peek . . . Give "my Wayne" a hug from all of us!

Condolence: Alan, Jerry, Wayne, Nora & their families: My thoughts & prayers are with all of you. When thinking of Aunt Peek, I always smile. I have been thinking about the times I stayed with Grandma & Peek & Clayton when I was young. In my later years she was always there for me especially when Mom& Dad passed. My husband Doc & I spent Memorial Day with her for quite a few years. Will miss her greatly. She was one of my favorite people.
