DANIAL DEAN NELSON

Danial D. Nelson, age 71 of Bloomfield, NM, passed away, Saturday, May 5, 2018 in Albuquerque, NM.
Memorial services with full Military Honors, will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Friday, June 1st in the Bloomfield First Baptist Church, 200 W. Sycamore, Bloomfield N.M. Cremation has been held there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made In Danny’s name to Cast for Kids at https://impact.castforkids.org/fundraiser/1456112. Danial Dean Nelson was born on February 11, 1947 to Earl Boyd “Bob” and Lucille (Christofferson) Nelson in Sidney, NE. Danny was raised in the Aneth and Montezuma Creek area, graduating from San Juan High School in Blanding, Utah in 1966. He was inducted into the US Marine Corps Utah Platoon on July 22, 1966 and served his country in the Vietnam War. He retired from El Paso/Enterprise with over 35 years of service.
Aside from his many years of loyal service, Danny enjoyed hunting and fishing. He spent many years fishing in tournaments with Four Corners Team Bass, UBTT, and Four Corners Bassmasters. He was on the winning team for the Federation at Lake Powell, the only time New Mexico has ever won the Federation tournament. Danny was very proud of earning the title ABA Angler of the Year. He served as President and Tournament Director for these organizations, and was avidly involved with the Junior Bassmasters and Cast for Kids.
When he wasn’t on the lake, he was working in his yard. Danny had a green thumb and will always be remembered for his immaculate garden, with which he shared with everyone.
Danial was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Lucille Nelson, sister Rheba Flaugh, and brother Boyd Nelson. He is survived by his wife Cheryl Nelson Bloomfield NM, daughter Jennifer (Brad) Masten, son Daniel (Brooke) Nelson, sister Diana Nelson Cortez, Colo, brother Tommy Nelson (Pam ), Sidney Ne , sister Tammy Kennedy (James) Bloomfield NM. He leaves behind grandchildren Madison, Corbin, Katie, Brett, Cassidy, Caleb, Eli, Kaiden, JJ, Monique, Zachary, and Ryan as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
“Mac”, “Fishin’ Papa”, and even “Putter”, Danny was known by many endearing names. He could always bring a smile to someone’s face with his unique sense of humor. He had a large heart and enjoyed sharing it by spending time with loved ones. His funny faces and silly antics will truly be missed!
