LaVern L. “Shorty” Tarpenning
LaVern “Shorty” Tarpenning, age 83 of Sidney, NE passed away at Sidney Regional Medical Center Extended Care, April 10, 2018. services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, April 14th in the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel with Pastor Lee Eads of the Church of the Nazarene officiating. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Friday from 4-7:00 P.M. with family present from 4-6:00 P.M. Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Shorty’s care and funeral arrangements.
Shorty was born June 20, 1934 to Nova and Elta (Morris) Tarpenning in Albion, NE. He was a lifelong resident of Sidney, NE and attended Sidney Public Schools through 10th grade with the class of 1953. He married Canarae Learned on November 14, 1964 in Sidney, NE.
Shorty worked 31 years in oilfield trucking with Carl Johnson Trucking and preceeding companies and also for 7 years at Cabela’s Distribution Center.
Shorty is survived by his wife, Canarae, (1) sister, Ruthie (Bennie) Baker of Bullhead City, AZ, (3) nieces and nephews.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, (1) brother: William Cruise, (2) sisters: Donna Sharp and Betty Clark
