Edward Merle Lehman
Edward Merle Lehman, age 86 of Elkhorn NE, former Sidney Resident, died on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Parsons House in Omaha NE.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday January 12th at 10:30 A.M. at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sidney with Father Michael McDermott officiating, Burial with military Honors will follow Mass at the Greenwood Cemetery. A Christian Wake service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Thursday evening. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel from 2- 4:00 P.M. on Thursday.
Memorials can be made in Edward’s name to Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sidney. Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Edward’s care and funeral arrangements.
Edward was born October 21, 1931 in Aurora NE. Edward attended school in Aurora Nebraska. At the age of 17 he joined the United States Navy and served during the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged after 4 years. His family had moved to Sidney while he was in the service, and while home on leave he met his future wife. On May 15, 1954 he married Patricia Ann McMillian at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sidney, and had 4 children. They lived in Sidney until 1962, when his job, with John Deere transferred him to Winner South Dakota. From there they moved to East Moline Illinois, Storm Lake Iowa, and Champaign Illinois. Ed retired in 1986 to Elkhorn NE. With a passion for work, he did continue to work off and on for John Deere until his wife’s death in 2005. Ed was considered a “John Deere Man”. He enjoyed watching the wheat harvest when he would visit Sidney during the summers.
He is survived by his sister Teresa Jean (Pedro) Rodriguez of Sparks, NV, Sons Edward Michael and Max Christopher of Omaha, NE, John Timothy (Darcy) of Grimes, IA, Daughter Jana (Bob) Deines of Sidney, NE, grandchildren Matt (Casey) Lehman of Grimes, IA, Tyler Lehman of Grimes IA, Jennifer (Matt) Sullivan of Des Moines, IA, Michael Deines of Denver, CO, Sarah (Dain) Stevens of Minden, NE, and John Lehman of Omaha, NE, great grandchildren, Kemper, Jack, Elaina, Savannah, Hailey, Riley and Miles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 51 years Patricia, sisters Ruth and Margret.
