Betty Jo  Battin
Betty Jo (Hoevet) Battin age 75 of Alliance, NE passed away Friday, November 17, 2017 at the SRMC Extended Care in Sidney, following and eight month battle with esophageal cancer.
Cremation has been held and memorial graveside services will be at a later date in the Bethel Cemetery near Crawford, NE. Betty was born at Squaw Mound outside of Marsland, NE to Arthur and Gladys (Leetch) Hoevet on September 2, 1942. As a child she attended Trunk Butte and Squaw Mound Schools. She helped at the family farm growing up doing chores and gathering eggs. Betty graduated from Crawford High School.
On November 10, 1961 she was united in marriage to H. Blake Johnson. Helping on the farm/ranch in Sioux County as well as being a waitress at the sale barn until the early 70’s when they moved to Alliance with their three young children Brenda, Ben and Beverly. For several years she worked at the Rubber Hose Company before it closed. Knowing she needed to help with the family she began working at St. Joseph Nursing Home as a CNA, and later became a med aide. She also worked at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home. After her marriage dissolved she moved to Mitchell and worked at the nursing home and met her second husband Marshall Battin. They resided in Lyman, NE until Marshalls passing. She moved back to Alliance and became a resident of the Good Samaritan. She gave you a run for your money at card games, turned ceramics into beautiful pieces, crocheted beautiful afghans and other items. She won several top ribbons from the Box Butte County Fair. Bingo was her all-time favorite game.
She is survived by her children: Brenda Sims of Pampa, TX, Ben and LeAnn Johnson of Alliance and Beverly and Steven Arellano of Sidney. Brothers: Richard Hoevet of Scottsbluff, Dan Hoevet of Omaha, Ray and Sheri Hoevet of Casper WY. Sisters: Neoma and Ronald Clark of Alliance and Doris Rising of Alliance. Sisters-in- law: Sarah Johnson of Chadron and Marilyn Straight of Boone, IA. Five granddaughters, five grandsons, seven great-granddaughters, three great-grandsons and several nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, twin sister Beverly Ann, sisters-in-law Lorraine Hoevet, June Johnson and Beth Kirton, brothers-in-law, Jack Rising, Gordon Johnson, Bruce Johnson, and Tom Johnson and Nephew, Terry Rising.
