MARY E. HORNICEK
Mary Hornicek, age 91 of Chappell, NE and longtime Sunol resident, passed away in Kimball, NE, Wednesday, November 15, 2017.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 18th at the Lodgepole United Methodist Church with Reverend David Abbott officiating. Burial will follow in the Chappell Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Memorials can be made in Mary’s name to the Lodgepole United Methodist Church or contributions for gift meal tickets for the Chappell Senior Center. Mary Emma Hornicek, the daughter of Fay Frank and Edith Marjorie (Kinnie) Forman, was born on July 27, 1926 at Holbrook, NE. She attended rural Furnace County Schools through the eighth grade and graduated from Holbrook High School before attending Kearney State College for two years. On June 10, 1954, Mary was united in marriage to Loyal Hornicek at Cambridge, NE. They made their home in Sunol for fifty-two years before moving to Chappell.
Mary was active in the Threads of Friendship Quilt Guild and the BPO Does where she held offices and was chosen as Doe of the Year. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, quilting and volunteered at the Pre-School. Mary was very active in her church for more than fifty-three years.
Survivors include her children: Gary Hornicek and wife Julie of Chappell and Judy Perry and husband Dan of Kimball; (1) sister: Marge Verplank of Sidney; (8) grandchildren: Hillery Hornicek, Amber Burson (Mark), Jennifer Bekke (Ryan), Danielle Perry, Sarah Whiting (Danny), Amy Swanson (Mike), Jennifer Musgrave (Matt) and Amanda Deich (Jason); (16) great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband: Loyal on March 23, 2017, her parents and (2) brothers: Albert and Byron Forman.
