KATHRYN M. MERSCHEIM
Kathryn M. Merscheim, age 90 of Ft. Pierre, SD and former Potter, NE resident passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017 in Pierre.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 23rd in the Prairie West Church in Potter with Pastor Betsy Galloway-Carew officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Potter Cemetery. Cremation has been held. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel to sign Kathryn’s register book and drop off condolences on Friday, September 22nd from 1-7:00 P.M. with family present from 5-7:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kathryn’s name to the Potter Fire Department or the Potter Youth Center. Kathryn M Merscheim left this world on September 9th 2017 to be with her Heavenly Father and her many family members who went before her.
Katie Merscheim age 90 was born May 30, 1927 at Dix, Nebraska. At the age of 10, she moved to Potter, Nebraska. She was baptized in the Presbyterian Church in Dix and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Potter. She graduated from high school in 1944. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Potter for over 50 years. She was a member of the Potter Fire Department Auxiliary for many years. On April 27, 1946 she was married to Kenneth Merscheim at St. Francis, Kansas. They made their home in Potter where they owned and operated the “Ken-Mer Truck Lines” and the “Merscheim Building Supplies Store”. Katie also worked many years in the Potter Sundry where she loved making Tin Roof Sundaes.
In 2005 Katie moved to Pierre, South Dakota to be near her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth (1995), son Roland (1954), daughter Lynette Hornicek (2010), Parents Hugo (1952) and Doreen Harmsen (1992), father Henry Jacoby (1983), sister Lois Holt (1973), brother Marvin Harmsen (2014), and nephew Darrell Holt (2008).
Katie is survived by her son Kevin and wife Gayle of Fort Pierre, SD. Grandchildren Brandon and wife Megan of Blackhawk, SD, Bryce and partner Dawn of Maricopa, Arizona, Hillery Hornicek and partner Philip of Sidney, NE. Step grandchildren Chanda Schoenhard and fiancé Kevin of Everly, Iowa, Jeny Schoenhard of Norwalk, Iowa, Dustin Schoenhard and wife Alicia of Pierre, SD. Great-grandchildren Baylie, Nathan, Kaycee, Stacy, Jake, RhyAnna, Emily, Lincoln, Acacia and Olivia. She is also survived by her sister Luella Osbourne of Vancouver, Washington, brother Jerry Jacoby and wife Verlene of Loveland, Colorado and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
