GERTRUDE E. RUSHMAN
Gertrude E Rushman, age 89, of Sidney NE former longtime Dalton resident, died Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Sidney Care and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral Service will be held Monday, August 14th at 10:30 AM at Salem Lutheran Church in Gurley with Pastor Ted Bourret officiating. Interment will follow at the Dalton Cemetery. Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service is in charge of Gertrude’s care and funeral arrangements. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Sunday, August 13th from 1:00-7:00 PM. The family will be at the funeral home from 4:00-6:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made in Gertrude’s name to Salem Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Hour. Gertrude was born to Anton and Hilda (Leimbach) Steffens on their farm south of Dix, NE. She was baptized and confirmed at St Paul Lutheran Church, northeast of Potter NE. Later she moved with her family to a farm northeast of Potter. She was united in marriage to Norman Rushman, November 10, 1946 at St Paul’s Lutheran Church. They farmed west of Gurley NE until they moved to their home southeast of Dalton in 1949. She worked together with her husband on the farm raising their family. She raised a large garden and had an egg and cream route. She made the family self-sufficient with her canning and was noted for her dill pickle, tomato juice and mixed vegetable recipes. Gert loved to play cards and was a lifelong baseball fan. No family birthday went uncelebrated without a game of cards and a good meal!
She had a strong faith in the Lord as her Savior and Friend....and prayed for and encouraged her family to love Him too!
She is survived by her children, Russell Rushman and wife Annabell of Dalton, Carolyn Dishman of Dalton, Marlene Slama and husband Mike of Potter and Richard Rushman and wife Kim of Gurley. Grandchildren, Robert Rushman and wife Nicki, Roland Rushman and wife Sherri, Christy Schumacher and husband Scott, Brooks Rushman and wife Angie, Eric Dishman and wife Stephanie, Andy Dishman and wife Michele, Bridget Von Seggern and husband Mike, Corinne Fischer and husband Steve, Robin Wolvin and husband Gary, Mike Dishman and wife Samantha, Teresa Hausmann and husband Bob, Casey Slama and wife Alysha, Allison Judy and husband Brian, Josh Rushman and wife Sara, Anthony Rushman and wife Heidi and Felicia Blanke and husband Jeff. There are (36) great grandchildren and (4) great, great-grandchildren, her brother, Bob Steffens and wife Deloris and her sister-in-law, Charlotte Steffens. Also surviving her are many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her husband, Norman, her parents, her brothers, Norman Steffens and wife Lemoyne, Leonard Steffens, Ron Steffens and her sister, Ruth Nienhueser and husband Cliff and grandson, Sean George.
