Mary Jo From, age 80, of Lodgepole, NE, passed away at Miller Memorial Care Center in Chappell, Monday, May 8, 2017.
Funeral service and Mass will be Saturday May 13, at 10:30 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chappell, NE, with Fr. Matthew Koperski officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery. A lunch will be served at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chappell following the burial. Memorials may be made in Mary Jo's name to St. Joseph's Catholic Church or the Lodgepole Old Settlers’ Committee. Visitation will be at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Friday from 1-7 pm, with family present from 4-6 pm. Mary Jo was born March 11, 1937, in Chappell, NE, at the old hospital on Main Street, to Joe and Grace (Rubado) Teague of Lodgepole. She was the second of six children born to them. The Teagues lived in Sidney and Lisco for a few years before moving back to Lodgepole, where Mary Jo lived until she graduated from Lodgepole High School in 1955.
Mary Jo married Jim From in April of 1957 in Ft. Collins, CO, and to this union four children were born. Mary Jo helped Jim with the farming and ranching operation, and also worked at several businesses before becoming the secretary at Lodgepole Public Schools, where she enjoyed working with the students and staff for 33 years, until her retirement in 2004.
Mary Jo acquired a new family in 1974 when Grace married Charlie Wise, and she loved organizing reunions for the combined families.
Mary Jo was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Lodgepole and St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Chappell, was a member of the Altar Society and taught Catechism. She joined the Xi Alpha Tau Sorority, and served on the Lodgepole Alumni Committee and the Old Settlers’ Committee for many years. She helped with the horse 4-H program and also with the Jesse Grasz Junior Rodeo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her parents, her stepfather Charlie Wise, her sister Jeanne, and beloved in-laws, stepsisters and stepbrothers.
Survivors include her children, Sandy From, Steve From, Mike From, Amy Michalek and husband Tom, and granddaughter Grace Michalek, brother Robert Teague and special friend Lyn Wilds, brother Richard Teague and wife Karen, sister Susan Krois and husband Paul, sister Linda Miller and husband Weston, beloved stepsisters and stepbrothers and many nieces and nephews.
Mary Jo loved her animals, the kids at school, her friends and especially her family. She will be deeply missed by all of us.
