Obituary for James L. ""Jim"" Gilroy

James L. “Jim” Gilroy, age 88 of Dalton, NE passed away at Highland Park
Care Center in Alliance, Wednesday, March 22, 2017.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 29th in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney with Pastor Leon “Bud” Gillespie officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Dalton Cemetery. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Tuesday from 1-7:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s name to Highland Park Care Center in care of Memory Support Household or the donor’s choice. Jim, the son of Francis Herbert and Ruth Hazel (Lane) Gilroy, was born December 6, 1928, in Denver, CO. He attended school in Denver and graduated from Denver High School. After graduation he worked as a messenger boy for the Union Pacific Railroad in Denver. He then came to Dalton to assist with his grandparents’ farming operation. He served in the Korean War with the U.S. Army. He met the love of his life, Rose Ann Bivens, and married in 1956. His life-long passion was ranching and farming.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Ann of Dalton; daughter, Donna (Calvin) Griess of Sutton; son, Daniel of Alliance, and (2) grandsons, Todd and Paul Gilroy of Alliance and numerous extended family members and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his daughter: Deborah, daughter-in-law: Laurie, his parents: Francis and Ruth, brother: William, father- and mother-in-law: E. Glen and Hilda, (1) sister-in-law, (4) brothers-in-law and numerous family and friends.
