Ervin George   Leach
Ervin Leach, 81 of Chappell NE went to his Eternal Rest Friday morning, February 24, 2017, while at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Cremation has been held and private family services are planned. Inurnment will be in the Chappell Cemetery at a later date. Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Ervin’s care and funeral arrangements.
Ervin was born August 19, 1935 to Amy Mable and Joseph Dewey Leach at their farm home near Loomis, NE. He was the 8th child and the 5th son. He attended school at Bunker Hill in Phelps County. He moved with his parents to Alanta, NE where he worked on the family farm and helped move houses for Roy Pickering.
On February 19, 1954 he married the love of his life Delores Florom. To this union he was blessed with five children: Ricky, Randy, Rita, Ronda and Rudy. They resided in Holdrege where he was an employee for the State of Nebraska Department of Roads for 15 years. In 1966 he moved the family to Chappell to own and operate the Wayside Cafe, Motel and Conoco Service Station.
In 1969 he sold the business and went to work for Werner Construction where he helped build the I- 80 corridors. Erv continued his construction career with Werner as a loader operator and plant supervisor until his retirement in 2001 with 32 years of service.
Erv is survived by his wife: Delores; his daughter: Rita Purcell of Brule; daughter: Ronda Ward and husband Mike of Chappell; son: Rudy Leach of Charleston, SC; daughters-in-law: Cheri Leach and Debra Leach both of Chappell; (12) grandchildren and (22) great-grandchildren; (2) sisters: Dorothy Bachman of Holdrege and Elta Kern of Minden.
He was preceded in death by two sons: Ricky and Randy and son-in-law: Charles Purcell.
