MARVIN E. SCHNELL

Marvin E. Schnell, age 84 of Sidney, NE passed away at the Sidney Regional Medical Center Thursday, January 19, 2017.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 26th in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney with Pastor Dave Hall officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Wednesday from 1:00 to 7:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made in Marv’s name to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for Sunday School Bibles or the donor’s choice. Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Marvin’s care and funeral arrangements.
Marvin Eugene Schnell, the son of Henry and Marie (Kilthau) Schnell was born on December 3, 1932 in Scotts Bluff County, NE. He graduated from Sidney High School in 1950 and farmed for a year before joining the United States Navy. Following his Honorable Discharge, Marv returned to Sidney and on June 28, 1958 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Segelke in Sidney. Together they operated the family farm. Marv also worked for numerous farmers, Dinklage Feed Yard and Merlin and Craig Maas until his retirement in 2011.
Marv loved farming, bowling, playing cards, watching football, reading, fishing, talking with friends and most of all spending time with his granddaughter.
Survivors include his daughter: Brenda Berner and husband Alan and granddaughter: Tyenne all of Dalton; sister: Norma Larson of Tucson, AZ; sisters-in-law: Sharon Oliverius and husband Lee of Sidney, Nancy Hare of Canyon, TX, Fran Schnell of Potter, Betty Segelke Erickson of Sidney, Patsy Segelke of Peetz and Jacque Schnell of Bakersfield, CA; brothers-in-law: Bill Segelke of Arvada, CO, Larry Segelke of Sterling and Dick Segelke of Sidney and numerous extended family members and friends.
Marv was preceded in death by his wife in 2011, his parents, son: Tim, brothers: LeRoy and Floyd Schnell and numerous extended family members.
