MYRON H. FLESSNER
Myron H. Flessner, age 82 of Potter, Nebraska passed away in Sidney, Friday, December 16, 2016. Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, December 23rd in the Weyerts Immanuel Lutheran Church east of Gurley with Pastor Wayne Pouppirt officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow immediately in the Weyerts Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Myron’s name to Weyerts Immanuel Lutheran Church. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Thursday from 1:00 to 7:00 to sign Myron’s register book and drop off condolences for the family. The family will be present from 4:00 to 6:00. Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Myron’s care and funeral arrangements.
Myron H. Flessner, the oldest of four children was born August 25th, 1934 at home north of Sidney, Nebraska to Ehme and Clara (Franzen) Flessner. Myron grew up working on the family farm. He entered the military April of 1957, completing his basic training at Fort Ord, California. Following that, he went to Berlin, Germany on a ship which took 10 days. He was in Berlin for 18 months. He returned home on an old government plane which stopped for repairs in Greenland and Iceland. He was discharged in Fort Dix, New Jersey in March of 1959. He then took a bus trip to Wisconsin to visit a good friend from the Army. A couple of days later, he returned home on the bus to resume farming.
On July 17, 1960, Myron was united in marriage to Jeanette Bruns. To this union 2 children were born: Pat and Stan. Myron and Jeanette farmed north of Lodgepole until 1964 at which time the family moved to a farm south of Potter, where they farmed until retiring in 2006. Myron was a former member of the Elks and a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed camping and square dancing earlier in life, and later he looked forward to going gambling at Deadwood and Prairie Winds, South Dakota.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette; two children: Pat Jenks and husband Ray of Sidney, Stan and wife Evie of Sidney; one sister: Twila Sick of Chappell and one brother: Lamont (Nancy) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Amber Mondragon, Renee Allsman and Megan Flessner, and 3 great grandchildren, sisters-in-laws and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws: Floyd and Effie, brother: Doyle, brothers-in-law: Dick and Mike and grandsons Joe and Eric.
