ARNOLD F. “ARNIE” WITTIG

Arnold F. “Arnie” Wittig, age 84 of Chappell, NE passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016 in Sidney.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, May 18th in the Zion Lutheran Church in Chappell with Rev. Neil Carlson and Pastor Gary Rahe officiating. Burial will follow in the Chappell Cemetery. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Tuesday from 1-7:00 P.M. with family present from 4-6:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made in Arnie’s name to The Night of Hope. You may view Arnie’s Book of Memories, leave condolences, photos and stories at www.gehrigstittchapel.com. Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Arnie’s care and funeral arrangements.
Arnold “Arnie” F. Wittig, the son Elfriede (Teufert) and Frederick Wittig, Jr., was born on July 30, 1931, in Sidney, NE. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church and attended Sidney High School and Wesleyan College. He married Gloria Rahe on November 29, 1953. To this union two children were born; Stacie Leigh and Kendall Arnold. They lived in Chappell where Arnie farmed the Rahe homestead in addition to the Wittig homestead in Sidney. Arnie was a hard worker and enjoyed spending time in his shop welding. Arnie enjoyed having fun with his seven grandchildren and playing golf. Arnie will be remembered for his great sense of humor.
He is preceded in death by his wife Gloria (Rahe) Wittig, son Kendall Wittig, parents Elfriede (Teufert) and Frederick Wittig, brother Walter Wittig, sister Irene (Wittig) Smith, daughter-in-law Roxanne (Timm) Wittig, brothers-in-law Elmer Weber and Maury Smith.
Survivors include his daughter: Stacie (Wittig) and Bob Bender of Bakersfield, CA, sisters Esther (Wittig) Weber of Lincoln, NE and Elaine (Wittig) McNaught of Omaha, NE. Grandchildren Nicole and Stuart Beck of Dallas, TX, Lindsey and Tait Hrbek of Sidney, NE, Nathan and Malisa Bender of Bakersfield, CA, McKenzie and Casey Collier of Chicago, IL, Natasha and Chris Brennan of Wesley Chapel, FL, Neleigh Wittig of Chicago, IL, and Koleman Wittig of Phoenix, AZ. Nine great grandchildren Brayden, Mason, and Camden Beck, Briggs, Crue, and Kain Hrbek, Kinsleigh and Brynleigh Brennan, and Madelyn Bender and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
