ROBERT J. ADAMS

Robert J. Adams, better known as “R.J.” age 88 of Loveland, CO and former Sidney, NE resident, passed away at Aspen House in Loveland Thursday, January 9, 2014.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, January 17th in the First United Methodist Church in Sidney with Rev. Tom Hyde officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in R.J.’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Wounded Warrior Project.
Cremation has been held. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Thursday to sign R.J.’s register book and drop off condolences for the family.

Robert Junior Adams was born on February 19, 1925. R.J. was the oldest of four children born to Murphy Jewel and Marion Irene (Thomas) Adams. Bob was raised in Oklahoma and graduated from Elmore High School. He then served two tours in the United States Army during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theater where he began as the Number One Gunner and ended his career as a Military Policeman. He received an Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, a Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Medal-Japan as well as the WWII Victory Medal.
R.J. married Phyllis Kennedy Lindquist in 1954 in Sidney, where they raised their three children. He was heavily involved with the oilfields as Drilling Superintendent and Vice President of Gear Drilling Company and owner of Bob’s Water Service and Adams and Son Trucking. As a lifelong oilman, Bob was instrumental in the development of the oil industry in the tri-state region. Phyllis passed away in 1973 and R.J. later married Rosezetta Smith.
For the past twenty years, R.J. has been happily married to Nancy Chitwood. They moved to Cederedge, CO where they enjoyed many years of travel and retirement. As R.J.’s health began to decline, the couple moved to Colorado Springs and then Loveland to be closer to family.
Survivors include his wife: Nancy of Loveland; son: Colin “Butch” Lindquist and wife Barb of Mountain Home, Idaho; daughter: Nancy Kessler and husband John of LaGrange, Wyoming; son: Don Adams and wife Becky of Sidney and step-sons: Mark and Scott Chitwood of Nevada; his sister: Marlene Dorsey of Ft. Smith, AR; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family members.
R.J. was preceded in death by his parents: Murphy and Marion, his first wife: Phyllis, brother: Glenn Adams and sister: Wava Anderson.
R.J. was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
